The silicon rectifier diode is used in the battery charging circuit to allow current to flow uni-directionally and act as a semi-conductor in the battery chargers to regulate the electrical power in the vehicle. Replacement of a diode is necessary for the operation of the charger should the diode burn out or experience a voltage spike.
